چکیده

PURPOSE We attempted to comprehensively assess the possible association between p53 Arg72Pro polymorphism and the risk of basal cell carcinoma (BCC). METHODS We performed a literature search of case-control association studies on p53 Arg72Pro polymorphism and BCC susceptibility in PubMed and EMBASE. 7 eligible studies were finally identified and their data were extracted for this meta-analysis. BCC risk was determined with the fixed effects model using a pooled odds ratio (OR). RESULTS Using distinct genetic models, we found that p53 Arg72Pro polymorphism was not associated with the overall risk of BCC. We observed a similar trend towards the association when performing subgroup analysis for Caucasians and Asians. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that presence of the common p53 Arg72Pro polymorphism may not play a role in the development of BCC. Larger studies are needed to better confirm the association.

Association between p53 Arg72Pro polymorphism and the risk of human papillomavirus-related head and neck squamous cell carcinoma: a meta-analysis.

This study aimed to investigate the association between p53 Arg72Pro polymorphism and the risk of human papillomavirus (HPV)-related head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) by conducting meta-analysis. The PubMed database was searched for relevant studies until May 30, 2013. Relevant studies were selected and data were extracted by two independent authors. Overall, subgroup, and sensitivi...

p53 codon 72 polymorphism and Hematological Cancer Risk: An Update Meta-Analysis

BACKGROUND Previous studies on the association of p53 codon 72 (Arg72Pro) polymorphism with hematological malignancies risk have produced conflicting results. The purpose of this meta-analysis is to define the effect of p53 Arg72Pro polymorphism on hematological malignancies risk. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Through searching PubMed databases (or hand searching) up to April 2012 using the ...

Arg72Pro Polymorphism of TP53 Gene and the Risk of Skin Cancer: a Meta-Analysis

BACKGROUND TP53 gene is one of the most important tumor suppressor genes. We undertook this meta-analysis to explore the association between TP53 Arg72Pro polymorphism and the risk of skin cancer mainly in Caucasians. METHODS We searched PubMed for case-control studies published up to March 2013. Odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the strength of associa...

Genetic polymorphism of p53, but not GSTP1, is association with susceptibility to esophageal cancer risk - A Meta-Analysis

A number of studies have evaluated two functional polymorphisms on p53 Arg72Pro and GSTP1 Ile105Val, in relation to esophageal cancer susceptibility. However, the results remain conflicting rather than conclusive. This meta-analysis on 2919 cases and 4074 controls for p53 Arg72Pro and 1885 cases and 2194 controls for GSTP1 Ile105Val from 13 published case-control studies showed that no signific...

Association between p53 Codon 72 (Arg72Pro) Polymorphism and Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma in Iranian Patients

Background: Glaucomatous neuropathy is a type of cell death due to apoptosis. The p53 gene is one of the regulatory genes of apoptosis. Recently, the association between the p53 gene encoding for proline at codon 72 and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) has been studied in some ethnic groups. This study is the first association analysis of POAG and p53 codon 72 polymorphism in Iranian patients...
